Horizon
is an innovative company poised to deliver the latest in broadband
technology…from phone, Internet and digital cable to
security and software development.
The
company is rich in history, with its beginnings as far back
as 1895 when a group of men in Chillicothe, Ohio, formed the
Home Telephone Company to compete with the Central Union Telephone
Company, a Bell System licensee. As the basic Bell patents
expired, businessmen in many cities, dissatisfied with the
slow growth and high charges of the Bell companies, were organizing
competing local companies. One of the Home Telephone Company’s
organizers, James M. Thomas, went on to become a national leader
of the independent, or non-Bell, telephone companies.
Throughout
the 100-plus years since its formation, the locally-owned Horizon
Chillicothe Telephone has brought high-quality state-of-the-art
communications service to its customers. In 1964, the Company
built Chillicothe Telcom, the area’s first cable TV system,
complete with extensive live local programming such as news,
City Council meetings, and high school sports. Because of federal
regulations, Telcom had to be sold in 1974. But in 2000, Horizon
brought cable TV back to the area using a cable over copper
technology called VDSL (very high speed digital subscriber
line). High-speed Internet packages also continue to evolve
and become faster.
Horizon
also offers software development and home and business security
